My breastfeeding story..

Like any other new mom, I had also faced a lot in the first few days of breastfeeding. within 1 hour of baby’s birth, I fed her first thick milk, and I was happy that she will get all nourishment she wants in upcoming days too, however, the doctor suggested my husband, to buy formula milk and recommended to give it alternately along with my milk, since the supply was not enough after few hours.

After discussing with friends who had the motherly experience I came to know it is the thing with all in the first few days, but some lucky ones have a good supply from day one itself.
As per doctor’s recommendation, we gave her 10ml of formula milk on day 1, as it was normal delivery I was discharged from hospital on day 2 and we have decided to go with breast milk but the things didn’t work accordingly she cried and got irritated because of hunger as milk production was low.

Again we had to give her formula milk but as a result, it doesn’t suit her, and she cried the whole night due to stomach pain. From day 3 magically my breast became tender and they were leaking like a fountain and pained a lot.

My mother in law and I was happy by this achievement of mine, on the 5th-day baby was detected by jaundice and had to be admitted ASAP they had kept her under UV lights.
Doctor told me to breastfeed her every 2 hours as this process will make her dehydrated, the first day went smoothly but on 2nd day due to stress and been awake up for whole night for 2 days it decreased my milk supply but, I continued to feed her as more she will latch more milk will be produced but she got constipated due to less milk and dehydration . On 3 rd day, we decided not to keep her under those harm light and kept her out in sun.

Things worked well her jaundice was gone, we got discharged from hospitable things went well up to 3 months after that I was suffered by a formation of milk duct which causes fever above 100degrees and breast pain a lot.

Still, I won’t gave up as it will be open by her latching and massage only, due to offering frequent latching in one side as I had to unclog the duct my nipples became sore and bloody.
Again things were coming on track and when she turn 4th month I suffered by herpes on my stomach by sleepless nights and low immunity, that is the worst pain I have suffered in my life even my normal delivery doesn’t get me this much. It feels like someone had poured hot oil on our skin and the burning sensation is on another level it took 15 days to recover, still I won’t give up and feed her in standing position.

Until then things are working great soon she will be 6 months old, will try to feed her as long as possible as like my mother has fed me for long 5 years.

My breastfeeding journey has taught me not to give up; no matter what one day result will come.

All about Ooty

Ooty is well known as a honeymoon destination in south India. It is a hill station in Nilgiri hills in the Tamil Nadu state of India.

Covered with eucalyptus and pine trees which gives a woody smell of forest that will make you forgot all your worries.

It was our first marriage anniversary when we decided to take a trip as a couple instead of giving a big bash party. it was in May month which is the best time to visit hill stations in India.

plan your trip in one or two months in advance in season time i.e from March to June.

Our planning started with online research, hotels, best places to visit and the best restaurants to eat.

How to reach:

If you are planning to travel from Chennai, Nilgiri express is the best option by train. It’s an overnight journey and will take you to Mettupalayam, the nearest railway station to Ooty, from here you can opt a toy train or a cab.

If you opt for a flight the nearest airport is the Coimbatore airport and from here you can have a cab or bus to reach Ooty.

Where to stay:

From low budget to high there is a number of options all across Ooty whether you want a hill view, city view or a garden view here are our picks:

  • Garden Manor: This hotel consists of British era look and is a good choice if you are looking for a good hotel in the main city area with an average budget.

Plus point of this hotel is a rooftop restaurant which gives a mesmerizing city view.

  • Holiday home: If you are a central government or state govt employee you can take a benefit of this lovely spacious guest house just in front of Ooty railway station.

http://www.holidayhomes.nic.in/

  • Airbnb: Booking an apartment or a resort with Airbnb is another great choice.

https://www.airbnb.co.in/s/India

 Places to visit:

Here is the list of the places which are worth going, and you do not need to explore each and everything which is mentioned online.

  • Botanical garden: it’s a splendid garden with a lot of variety of plants and flower in 22-hectare area. you can find rare species of trees and can spot fossil tree which is 20 million age-old; or can gaze the beauty of garden by lying on the garden, in addition to that you can also buy a plant like a hydrangea which is my favorite.

I would suggest visiting the garden on day 1 itself as it is located in the middle of the main city  so by the evening you can explore the city as well.

  • Timings: Monday-Sunday: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
  • Entry fee: adults- Rs 30 per person, children 5-10 age –Rs 15, children below 5 – no fee.
  • Camera fee: vedio-Rs100, still camera-Rs 50.

  • Doddabeta peak:

6.7 km from the main city is the highest point in the southern region of India you can easily spend hours gazing the beauty of Nilgiri where cloud array themselves and sunrays peak through them, one needs the patience to go to observation tower due to the long queue.

I would recommend trying warm lemon tea at doddabeta campus local shop.

  • Timing: Monday-Sunday :9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
  • Entry Fees: adults Rs 6 per Person, Children below 5-NO fee.
  • Camera Fees: video-Rs50, still camera-Rs 10.

  • 6 mile and 9 miles or shooting point:

Many movies were shot in this scenic place one can admire the view with horse riding, the name 6 mile and 9 mile suggests the distance from Ooty city, it is the best place to relax and spend a day.

Here plastic bottle and food are not allowed because of the cleaning purpose so, leave your stuff in your vehicle only.

  • Timing: Monday-Sunday:8:00 am to 7:00 pm.
  • Fees: No Fees.
  • Camera Fees: No Fees.

  • Pykara waterfall:

Pykara waterfall is another tourist attraction in pykara village located 19km from Ooty, it is well protected by a fence from a safety point of view but you can enjoy boating in pykara reservoir.

As it is a km away from parking spot you can go by walking or there ana a electrical vehicle option too, do not forget to stump into some Mirchi baji and banana baji in a local shop nearby parking as they are the best you can have.

  • Timing: Monday-Friday: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, Saturday – Sunday :9:00 am to 6:30 pm

  •  Ooty Lake:

You can visit if you have spare time and can enjoy the boating but I will refer not to do as city wastewater is discarded in this lake it is not very pleasant to enjoy the boating.

  • Tea factory:

The area around Ooty is covered with lush green tea and coffee plantation, there is a number of factories around Ooty but tea estate viewpoint is open for tourist, where you can see the process of making tea.

The last and final stretch 3rd trimester

Hello! Friends,

As I sat down to write a regular post the little peanut inside my womb started kicking and I switch my mind to write a different content which I had never written in my blog before.

The last and final stretch my 9th month…………

Like the dots in above line the waits seems like never ending with the weekly doctor visit and passing days my anxiety level is going up and can’t wait to meet the baby while writing this post, baby completes 8 months and 23 days in my womb and when he/she is decided to pop out sure will come with a surprise.

As, per health is concern my pregnancy journey is a smooth ride with no morning sickness, backache etc. except I feel like sleeping all day long. The last trimester comes with many physical changes although I enjoy being pregnant and pampered but, it’s not easy for my body to carry a big bump.

I always wonder how people pee and pop with a large belly in Indian toilet, but now I got it, sleeping become a bit difficult and frequent washroom visits, feels like second hangout room when you are pregnant.

My most of the weight has been gained in a 9th month by 1 kg per week, the sweet craving couldn’t stop me and doctor said not to eat too much sweet as baby will gain too much weight and it will be difficult to do normal delivery, but we can do a little bit of cheating.

Definitely one will get bored of wearing same clothes every other day, though the market is full of maternity clothes and fashion these days, but it will be of no use, later on, read my post of maternity clothing hack hear to know how I survive it.

The nervousness and the patience to hold it for some more days is dying slowly inside me but it will be worth at the end of the day.

But the pampering and love you get from friends and family are the best you can get during this time guilt-free eating, shopping basically whatever you want.

And this will end with the great note just pamper yourself, take time for yourself, fulfill your cravings, spend time with your loved one and when the time comes it will happen with a blink of an eye.

Till then I’ll enjoy my belly, swollen feet and a bit of acidity.

Love you!

Shubhagini.

All in one product:

Chose makeup product wisely which can do multitasking work at the same time like lip and cheek tint, or a lipstick color that can be worn in lips, eyes and in cheeks too, BB or CC cream can be a great alternative for every day hustle free look.

Or a cream based blush which can be used as both creamy eyeshade and blush.

Eyebrows and mascara:

Filling up eyebrows and mascara can change up a whole game, as you will feel more presentable even if you are sleep deprived. Fix your eyebrows with petroleum jelly or with eyebrow gel and fill them using a brow powder or with a brow pencil.

Carrying a nail polish remover a compact powder and lipstick will come handy in a red light where you’ll get at least a minute to do some task.

Post pregnancy hair loss care.

Pregnancy comes with many physical changes. Other than stretch marks, acne, swallow feet, mood swings, also hair loss comes with it. Once the baby is born you’ll suddenly feel the tremendous amount of hair fall for 2-3 months.

But this is a temporary phase and here also you can blame hormonal changes which will become stable along with time.

What causes hair loss?

Increase in the level of hormones causes your hair to be in resting phase known as telogen, that is why you have thicker and voluminous hair during your pregnancy.

Post pregnancy settling down of these hormones back into a pre-pregnancy stage.many women face the problem of hair fall post pregnancy but, if you stress more about it, it will increase instead of stopping down.

Try to be calm and patient as it is a temporary process and can settle down 2-3 months after having a baby.

Other than hormonal changes many factors can cause hair loss like:

  • Poor nutrition.
  • Genetics
  • Thyroid during pregnancy.
  • Mineral deficiency.etc.

How to control hair loss?

Since it is natural processes in pregnancy don’t stress much about it instead with these little tips you can have control on it.

Drinking lots of water:

Consuming 3-4 liters of water in a day not only help to control hair fall but prevent many diseases too by doing so.

Hair massage:

Oiling your hair 2-3 times in a week is a great way to relax and add nutrition at the same time. Opt for coconut oil, olive oil or almond oil warm it a bit and massage it gently into your scalp.

This will strengthen your roots and prevent further hair fall.

Treating deficiency:

Take help of your doctor to identify if you have any iron or zinc deficiency and plan your diet according to it. Apart from supplements try to include a natural ingredient in your diet for iron, zinc or mineral deficiency if you have any.

Include food which is rich in vitamin C and vitamin B complex which can be found in citrus fruit and leafy vegetables, consuming these on regular basis will help to prevent hair fall.

Using organic product:

Using organic product will not harm your scalp in any way and also protect you from any allergy or infection that can be caused by using any regular shampoos and conditioner which contain paraben and SLS in it.

Using organic product during pregnancy will never harm you in any way and helps in preventing hair fall.

Avoiding styling tools and coloring:

It is best to avoid styling and coloring during pregnancy as coloring can trigger allergies. Instead, try to maintain it naturally, be gentle on it but if you are planning for maternity shoot save the styling for that one day.

Balance diet:

Whatever we consume shows up in our skin and hair, try to eat nutrient-packed food include more of fruits, vegetable, dairy product and protein-rich diet in your daily diet.

Food rich in antioxidant and flavonoids encourage good hair growth and protect hair follicles.

Hope this will help you in post-pregnancy hair loss, do let me know if you have any doubt in a comment section.

At home ideas for New Year celebration

One of my best memories of childhood is to celebrate New Year eve with friends and family at home, we have never ever visited or booked a special party hosted by many of the hotels, pubs, and restaurants.

The best part of celebrating at home is to dressed in pajamas and dance and eat like no one is watching.

We lived in an apartment where all the colony kids organize and hosted the party in the terrace; to relive those memories I am sharing some of the ideas that can help you in celebrating New Year eve at home especially if you are a new mom or a toddler’s mom.

Decoration:

  • Create a warm ambiance with a bonfire in the middle and chairs around it to stay connected with each other during the party.
  • If you are planning a party at terrace decorate it with the New Year banner and balloons on the floor.
  • Arrange a buffet system at one corner.
  • Set candle and flower arrangement in the tables to create warm vibes.
  • Make full use of fairy lights in the terrace wall, for a backdrop, around the tables wherever you think something is missing.

Food:

  • Bring your own food: divide the dishes among each house in this way no one will be loaded with whole responsibility of food and you’ll get the variety too.
  • If you have a baking specialist in your colony give him/her responsibility of preparing the cake if not can be bought from the bakery.
  • For beverages, the easiest recipe is to prepare a lemonade or to serve a cold drink.
  • For snacks popcorns, chips, mini samosas or fruit chat can be served.
  • In dessert ice cream or any Indian sweet can be served.

Games:

Plan a game that can be enjoyed by both adults and kids don’t make it complicated to understand the game for anyone.

  • A classic game like musical chair, dumb charade antakshari, and dart can be easy to manage and fun in playing too.

Music:

Each and everyone’s music taste is different so don’t go for what you like, when we plan a new year party our music is the new year special radio choose your favorite station and bring it on songs with a surprise and have fun.

Have fun and enjoy your New Year eve and do let me know if you have any queries.

Happy New Year.
